Carol Kravitz was born in New York City. She attended the High School of Music and Art and graduated
from Pratt Institute where she received her B.A. in Fashion Design. After a successful career as a designer and merchandiser
in the Apparel Industry for 35 years, Carol chose to follow her heart, and upon retiring in 2001, began studying painting
full time at the Art Students League in Manhattan. She has
studied with several of the finest contemporary realist and portrait artists in the world.
Though she has only been painting since 2001, Carol's paintings and drawings
are regularly featured in exhibitions and juried shows, and have won numerous awards.
In addition to several successful
one-woman exhibits throughout the Metropolitan area, she recently completed a solo show at the Andrews
Gallery in New York City,
had her paintings chosen for both the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe 108th Annual Open Exhibition at the National Arts Club and
the 64th Annual Audubon Artists Exhibition at the Salmagundi Club. She has just won the John and Tillie Bober Award for First Place in Oils at the Hudson Artists of New Jersey 53rd Annual
Regional Juried Art Exhibit.
Carol who describes her style as "Contemporary Realism" explains how she has found painting to be a life-changing experience:
"The interaction of colors and painterly brushstrokes bring me great joy. It is that which I seek to share with others by
communicating to the viewer the beauty that I see around me, whether in a simple still life set up in my studio or in the
landscapes and cityscapes of my experience."
She loves the immediacy of plein-air painting and the challenge of capturing the fleeting effects of light. In addition
to still lifes and landscapes her work also includes portraits, where she strives to capture the personality and essence of
each sitter.
Carol gives classes in drawing, watercolor and oil painting at her studio in Union City
and teaches drawing at night at the Weehawken High School
in Weehawken, NJ.
